The Huntess and the Frog

When Hunter and I returned from taking the boys to the bus stop this morning, he wouldn't come in the house because he wanted something under the car. I figured he had somehow found a baseball or football that he isn't supposed to have. So I went around the back of the car and looked underneath the car. I saw what looked like a small bouncy ball or something....then it moved. It was a little frog. Not really very cute...kinda ugly in fact. I ran and got my phone to take some pictures...the quality isn't great but you might get an idea of what our morning was like...

This was not a very pretty frog...and not very big either.

He was being very brave...careful to not get too close ;-)

Look by his back leg...the frog is under the mower about to make a break for it.

Mad Love

I am totally in love with my dog...

I think he totally rocks!!!

We took him to my friend's new Dog Spa, for a complimentary bath on Thursday.

LizBeth took such great care of my "stud muffin" (LizBeth's words...not mine)

He looks so clean, smells great and thanks to the "furminator" he isn't shedding!!!

It is official...Hunter is my favorite (shhhhh...don't tell all those stinky, banned from the bathtub due to shampoo abuse, little human boys of mine!!!!)

Knowing your roots

We have had Hunter now for almost 5 months, but he was not a puppy when we got him. He was around a year and a half. We got him from a rescue group and they weren't sure of his exact breed. He looks like a German Shepherd, but you could tell he looked a little different.

Well, we had a trainer come out to our house a couple weeks ago to give us a quote on some training. He told us that he thought maybe Hunter is a Belgian Malinois (pronounced MAL-in-wah).

I was amazed at the photos I saw and the temperament of the Malinois....it fit Hunter almost exactly. His eyes are always alert and his legs and body are really long.

I know that I love him no matter what, but I think it helps us be better "parents" when we know a little more about his breed!!

What do you think?

It is working

Hunter is doing great with the underground fence. His favorite ball is right by the flags and he won't even try to get it!!!

He won't even go near the flags....we were hoping he would use a little more of the area that he has available to him.

He did go through the fence a couple times today in a sprint to get the baseball Pete was throwing the kids (which sort of melted my heart).
Hunter LOVES being outside and I LOVE him getting some of that teen pup energy out!!

Shouldn't be funny....

I am a huge softy for any person or animal....disciplinarian I am not!!! It literally HURTS for me to watch a child in time out....I won't even tell you how I feel when a child gets a spanking!!! I am not against either and do use both methods for my children.

I took Hunter out on a leash to train him on the electric fence this morning. The prongs weren't long enough and I didn't have it fit quite right....so he walked right past the flags. I put the longer prongs on and tightened the collar. He walked by the flag and got quite a shock. Oh...the first couple of times my heart ached!!!! Then, I realized it was working and he was starting to recognize the beep and the shock.

A couple of minutes ago I let him out without the leash and I guess he forgot about the beep...and the "correction static". Boy did he jump and head back when he crossed the flag......and I LAUGHED.

It should not be funny!!!

How do you say "no more" in dog language?

I love Hunter....I really do.

But can someone please tell me how to tell a dog that I DO NOT WANT TO PLAY BALL ANYMORE!!

I am trying to look for a job on the computer and he keeps bringing this ball to me to throw....

Did you brush your teeth?

That is what I have been asking Hunter for weeks now....

He usually gives me his usual "what?" expression.

So today....I did it for him (or to him).

He wasn't too sure about it, but he let me scrub them pretty well and his breath is much better.

I LOVE THIS DOG!!!!

10 Minutes

That is all it took for Hunter to pull the stuffing out of his new toy!!!

I am going to try to do some power blogging tonight....I have so much to share from activities we have had with the kids. Today we enjoyed a school Thanksgiving lunch with Davis' class.

I had an interview on Tuesday for a job.....I am just keeping my fingers crossed. I am having as much faith as I can muster!!!

Until later....

48 Hours

Hunter is such a wonderful addition to our family. He is such a smart dog and seems to have made his place quickly in the household!!!

He has been with us for almost 48 hours and has been such a great dog. I bet he is exhausted, he moves every time anyone in the house moves!!!

He is potty trained....doesn't beg for food....allows anyone to take his toy.....doesn't dart out the door when left open...and hardly barks.

Nothing seems to unnerve him....he even sat in the garage with Pete yesterday as he pounded on an axle on the dirtbike without even a flinch.

Tomorrow will be the first time he is at home for some time while we are at baseball and racing. We have only 2 races left in the playoff season for racing. Davis is head to head with his friend and we are really hoping he can do well this weekend.

I will post more pictures of our big guy soon. I wish I had the camera with me this morning when I let Hunter come with me to take Matt to school. He was a little confused with the windshield wipers and kept trying to "catch" it.

Introduction

The Yost Family would like to announce the adoption of
Hunter

He is a 1 year old German Shepherd mix that we adopted tonight from a rescue group. He is the sweetest thing and we are so happy to have him. He is very calm, enjoys playing with balls (Pete has had to hide the baseballs) and he has hardly made a sound.

Welcome to your forever home Hunter...we look forward to many years of love and happiness together!!
