Now I get it

I can hear my parents say "don't take your shoes off without untying the laces".

I remember rolling my eyes and thinking "Whatever".

Now I get it....

But I guess my kids still don't!!!.
I didn't tie these...this is how they took them off.

Almost Ready

The kids go back to school on Monday....

I think we are ready...we have met their teachers (Davis' is Mrs. Havens - my maiden name - which is very cool and she is also AWESOME)...school supplies are neatly tucked in their new backpacks (courtesy of Grandma and Papa)...clothes are picked out...new school shoes are awaiting their turn to climb the stairs of the bus.

I am really excited that they will be back in school. It does mean we have to get back to a schedule and deal with homework. But I find the kids quickly get bored and start acting crazy.

I will update on Monday with the "1st day" pictures. I dreamed last night that they headed off on the bus and I suddenly remembered that I hadn't taken pictures. I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world...one time on the way to the bus after taking the pictures I accidentally deleted the pictures I just took. We simply redid them the next morning!!

We are looking forward to the last day of "summer" tomorrow.

Week 1

We are almost done with our first week of school for the new year.

Hannah is LOVING it!!!

Davis acts like he is an old pro.

Matt - he is doing well once we can get him on the bus, but is crying once he gets out of the car to get on the bus (talk about heartbreaking). I had to go to the school today to drop off some paperwork and accidentally ran into his class in the hallway...he immediately started crying. He is doing well otherwise and is even trying to not suck his thumb. He told me the first day that he only sucked his thumb at naptime and he covered his thumb with his blanket so no one would see.

They are all VERY tired by the end of the day!! I am tired of all the paperwork!!

Because I am terribly lazy, you can go here to see the pictures I uploaded to Facebook from their first day. You don't need an account to view the pictures.

Tomorrow we will be going camping with my parents and Lisa and her kids (they are borrowing Woody's camper). My Lou (my nephew Landon) goes to kindergarten on Monday, so I am glad we get to spend the weekend with him.

I think next year the school district needs to not start the year during a FULL MOON.....I have heard the kids have been a little crazier than normal.

Smarties

The kids and I are going to vacation bible school at my church this week (the kids as campers, me as a volunteer).

The theme this year is guardian angels.

I am actually with the middle schoolers in another building , so I don't get to see what the boys are doing until I pick them up.

They made a necklace with angel wings as a pendent and they were showing me what they had made when we got in the car.

The boys were explaining what was on the necklace and Matt says "these are angel wings".

Davis says, "wow Matt, you are really smart."

Matt says..."duh, I just finished a whole pack of Smarties".

A Good Start

I sure hope today is an indication of a great week.

Pete and I walked in the rain this morning and it felt GREAT!!! Pete said he was having a hard time keeping up with me (I had some pent up anger from this weekend). I was so proud of us because we didn't let the weather stop us from getting our exercise in!!

Pete will be taking his polygraph on Friday, which puts us one step closer to him becoming a Sheriff's Deputy.

The kids got approved for Medicaid and I was able to set up an appointment for them at the dentist tomorrow to get their 6 month cleanings (which we had to cancel in April for lack of insurance) and to get some of Hannah's teeth pulled. I will also be able to get Matt in for his 5 year well visit. I never thought this would be where we are, but I am so thankful for it. Now I can rest a little easier watching my boys being boys!!!

I have an interview next week for a position that I thought was completely off the table....a very pleasant surprise.

I have Pete's mom's mother's day gift done and should have my mom's done tomorrow or Wednesday.

Is it really only Monday????

Frequent Visit Points??

I don't think my children should be on first name basis with the school nurse...and vice versa.

My kids go to the clinic like they go to the bathroom.

What is up with the teachers.....is it just easier to let them go to the nurse instead of redirect them?

In the last 5 school days, we have received a call from the nurse on 3 of those days. We are used to Hannah going to the nurse (the nurse has given her Chapstik and mints), but 2 of those days have been for Davis. Granted, one day Davis was sent by his teacher for possible pink eye.

At least the nurse will have a break from the Yost kids for a week....winter break is next week. We are going to take a couple days and visit Pete's mom in Florida. I think we all need a break!!

My toughest job

Having 3 young children is really hard sometimes...

But I have finally figured out that being a mom isn't the toughest job that I have.

I think the hardest job for me is being a wife while being a mom.

Pre-children we fought, we disagreed, etc....

But we could separate from each other for a couple of hours, cool down and learn something from the disagreement.

Now, things have to continue...dinner has to be cooked...clothes washed....children need to be disciplined...baths taken.

I can't just stop doing something that I don't feel appreciated for just "to show him". We can't stop talking to each other when there are decisions that have to be made for the family.

You try to hide the tension from the kids so they don't worry.

I don't want my children to grow up too fast....but I do look forward to Pete and I being better spouses for each other.

Something new every day...

Matty stayed home sick today from school. His throat really hurts and he just doesn't feel great (he also puked this morning - but I think he just wasn't swallowing because it hurt). After some Tylenol and warm salt water (I remembered Mom), he felt good enough to take a shower and head to the store to get more medicine. We got him some Motrin and some throat lozenges, along with some Sprite. We also needed some groceries, so he toughed it out throughout the store.

Suddenly he said (or what I thought he said) "If I keep talking I am going to throw up". I repeated what he said and Matt said "No Mom...if YOU keep talking I am going to throw up". Pete agreed that he feels the same way sometimes (no worries, Pete WILL pay for that comment).

Here is a picture of him this afternoon after he took a GREAT nap and ate a whole can of chicken noodle soup (it was CARS soup and he kept joking every time he would eat "Sally").

I don't know if he will feel good enough for school tomorrow...I guess we will wait and see.

Hannah and Davis walked in the door from school this afternoon and said...."Do you know what 'Dork' means?"

Laughing they said "A whale's penis".

Guess what....they were right!!

I feel so enlightened!!

It won't be like this for long...

This is my new favorite song....it is so true.

This helps me get through the stage Matt is currently in!!

I completely understand the arms wrapped around your leg and you try to peel them off to leave. I can still hear Hannah crying when I left her at daycare when she was 3 and having to tell myself in tears..."Get in the car Sally...Get in the car". Now she barely looks around when she runs to the bus!!!

Enjoy every minute...it won't be like this for long!!

Ahhhhhh

The kids went back to school today after being home for 17 days...not that I was counting or anything!!! I am glad today was my morning to get the kids to school...tomorrow is Pete's turn and I bet they will be grouchy!!

We also found a used motor for the truck (my prayers for freeze plugs wasn't answered....it was a cracked block). It will be delivered to my dad's house tomorrow and then hopefully Pete and my dad can get it going again this weekend (this one car business is tough). We are so grateful we have my dad to help us with this or we would be in an even deeper hole!! Thanks Pop....you totally ROCK!!!

I wanted to send my prayers and good wishes to little Lilah....she is sick with a fever and she is only 6 weeks old. Baby Girl, you make sure you get enough attention from your mommy or Aunt Sally will have to take over!!!
